Copyright Alliance

COPYRIGHT ALLIANCE ANNOUNCES "CREATORS ACROSS AMERICA" CAMPAIGN AND INFORMATION RESOURCE
WASHINGTON--Copyright is at work in all 50 states, from graphic arts to filmmaking to songwriting, showcased in a new web feature, Creators Across America, on the Copyright Alliance web site, the organization announced today.

The site, www.copyrightalliance.org/creators, provides a snapshot of the creative diversity in all 50 states and tells the stories of individuals who depend on copyright protection to earn a living through a collection of statistics, videos and blogs. The announcement also marks the third anniversary of the launch of the Copyright Alliance as a platform for creators across all copyright-dependent disciplines.

"The importance of copyright often is discussed in an academic way, with little true understanding of the creators who stand everyday on the protections copyright provides," said Lucinda Dugger, Director of Outreach for the Copyright Alliance. "The Creators Across America campaign and web site personalizes the issue, giving creators a platform to tell their stories and convey the importance of copyright to their daily lives."

The site launches with video of creators including a computer animator in California, a board game designer in Colorado and a writer in Kentucky, among others. Over time it will be populated with the stories of creators from all 50 states.

"This effort puts a face on the employment and economic data the Copyright Alliance has collected for years, bringing the importance of copyright to life in a very real and compelling way," said Patrick Ross, Copyright Alliance Executive Director. "We hope it will be a useful tool for anyone who wants to better understand creativity in America and why copyright is key to its ongoing success."

Hi Janice,

Thanks for the shout-out for our new Creators Across America series! We have eight videos posted so far, which can be seen in aggregate at our YouTube site, http://www.youtube.com/user/CopyrightAlliance . Romance author Julie Lence is one of the interview subjects.

We hope artists and creators will enjoy the site, and we'd love to have artists suggest themselves for interviews if in the DC area or perhaps submit their own videos! We're at info@copyrightalliance.org .
